Reaching Out

Too many people tell us that the Maine State Museum is a hidden gem! We have no advertising budget to help bring the museum out of hiding, but museum staff and volunteers try every day to make sure that Maine people and visitors know about the museum and its wonderful collections, programs, and exhibitions.

In one creative project to promote the museum, volunteer marketing coordinator Elizabeth McKenney developed three one-minute silent video spots. Thanks to the Maine Tourism Association, these spots are currently showing in the state tourist information centers in Kittery and Yarmouth.

With the video created, it was a short step to add narration and offer the spots to community television stations state-wide. Bruce Hertz, Maine State Museum Commission member, provided a professional narration and now these one-minute videos are distributed free of charge to any community television station that requests them.
