Join the Friends of the Maine State Museum for the 2012 series of talks and programs highlighting the Maine State Museum's world class exhibits and collections.

All presentations will be held at the Maine State Museum in Augusta and are free and open to the public.

February 25, 2012 – 11:00 a.m.
The Art of Illustration
Rebekah Raye, children's book illustrator, will give a reading and workshop that will inspire and engage the creativity of people of all ages.

March 14, 2012 – 6:30 p.m.
The Red Paint People
Maine State Museum Chief Archaeologist Bruce Bourque will discuss the ancient people who flourished in Maine more than 4,000 years ago.

April 11, 2012 – 6:30 p.m.
Milton Bradley and the Checkered Game of Life
Historian David Richards will present the fascinating story of Maine native Milton Bradley, credited with launching the board game industry in North America.

April 14, 2012 – 11:00 a.m.
Maine Squeeze Accordion Ensemble
Polka, waltz, or just tap your foot to great accordion music from around the world.

May 30, 2012 – 6:30 p.m.
Malaga Island, Fragmented Lives
Maine State Museum Curator of Historic Collections Kate McBrien will talk about the newly opened exhibition that explores the misconceptions about and realities of the Malaga Island community.

June 27, 6:30 p.m.
Tales from Misery Ridge: One Man's Adventures in the Great Outdoors
Paul Fournier, Maine Guide, bush pilot and former public information officer for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, will talk about his new book and fascinating career.
