Maine State Museum Joins Smithsonian Magazine's Museum Day Live! on September 23, 2017

Free Admission for all Participants Who Have a Downloadable Museum Day Live! Ticket

On Saturday, September 23, 2017, the Maine State Museum in Augusta will open its doors free of charge as part of Smithsonian magazine's thirteenth annual Museum Day Live! In order to be admitted for free on September 23, participants need only visit the Smithsonian magazine Museum Day Live! website, download a free ticket for two people, and present it at the Maine State Museum. On that day, the museum will be open from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

"Our visitors often think of the Maine State Museum as a kind of mini-Smithsonian," comments Museum Director Bernard Fishman. "This is a compliment to both institutions and makes our participation in Museum Day a good fit for the Maine State Museum. Both museums use objects from nature and culture to enhance understanding and knowledge, and convey the incredible richness and diversity of the many kinds of worlds that surround us."

Smithsonian recognizes the extraordinary power of museums, and other cultural institutions, to provide visitors with insight and inspiration. Museum Day Live! represents a nationwide commitment to boundless curiosity and the pursuit of knowledge. Over 200,000 people downloaded tickets for last year's event; this year's is expected to attract more museum-goers than ever before.

Visitors who present the Museum Day Live! ticket will gain free entrance for two at participating venues for one day only. One ticket is permitted per household, per e-mail address.
